I am the daughter of Bernard Jackson who 'crossed the bar' on June 25th 2007. He was an engineer.
I have since been researching the British Merchant Navy. I am hoping to find some of his old shipmates.
Dad was on the Vertagus in Feb/Mar 1968. He was in the engine room not sure of the actual job description, he was discharged in Baltimore, I believe due to an accident on board ship. He told me that he slipped on the stairway leading down to the engine room and hurt his back.
I believe some of his shipmates nicknamed him 'Hank' because of the novels that he used to read, they were written by Hank ?
He also reffered to one of his mates as Taffy.
I would love to hear from anyone who knew him.
