I served as 2nd mate on the Betoeran from january 1951 till march 1952. The ship was originaly build for carrying oil on the laketrade in the USA and later converted to a cargo ship, having 2 holds, derricks and heavy lifting gear for up to 25 tons. She was leased to BPM and trading between Indonesian ports like Surabaya, Djakarta, Balikpapan, Pladju, Djambi and Belawan There were also 2 sisterships, Buduk and Nassau, the last mainly trading around New Guinea.
