"General Purpose" started in December 1966 with the Donax which sailed from Belfast. I was a grade two seaman on her on that trip. We were "chosen" for the first GP ship, or so I was told. Not sure why we were chosen, was it because we were good or not so good? I'll never forget my first trip into the boiler to clean tubes - think I lost about two stones after half an hour of that. Could do with it now come to think of it. I started on deck in 1964 so it was a culture shock.

I'd like to hear from anyone else who was on her at the time.
