The Achatina was trading to the American army base in Saigon during my time on her in 1967. One crewmember was killed when a headline jumped off the drum end during mooring operations. One engineer fell off the gangway in Saigon and fractured his skull. The last skipper was nicknamed the Fureher. The food was crap and messdecks infested with cockroaches.
