I have learnt my profession on the Bremer Vulkan, Schiffbau und Maschinenfabrik, in 1974 and was lucky enough the work at the main turbine, the gear box and the two boilers during my apprenticeship. I was also allowed to work in the "Bordmontage" onboard on the ship in the drydock. The supertankers were so long that the bulbous bow had to be fitted later when the ship was docked out. We used a kind of tunnel with rubber seals to keep the water away while the welders connected the sections.
