My brother Ronnie Fairless sailed on this ship

He was sadly drowned while ship was in port in Newcastle Upon Tyne 6th June 1969

Would be so nice if anyone remembered him

Thank You

The cook's special was boiled beef and carrots, (which wasn't the nicest of dishes) plus he had a short fuse, and got VERY upset when anyone criticised his cooking. One day, said boiled beef was the main dish and the electrician told me to tell the cook "if he threw that over the side he would pollute the ocean" he was trying to be clever in front of the forth engineers young wife. I did as I was ordered and the next day when the sparks did his rounds he went through the galley and holy hell erupted. Of course we tried not to listen but we couldn't help it. The day after that I was punished by being moved from engineers steward to mates steward. I did explain that I was only carrying out a superior's crew members orders but to no avail.
