I was a J.O.S on the maiden voyage of the "Asprella" in 1959 which we took over from the Kiel shipyard in Germany. We flew from Southend Airport on KLM using a turbo-prop "Elizabethan" to Germany. My cabin number was 208, the same as the Radio Luxembourg wave length. We went to Amsterdam first to load fresh water for Gibralter before going to Kuwait for our first oil cargo.
