08/30/2009 - 20:01 Maruja Van Laar

This vessel is my "namegiver". My dad - Karel van Laar - sailed the Maruja in the early fifties in the Caribian as far as I know. He must have had a great time I guess cause he convinced my mom to name his first born daughter Maruja. Unfortunatly I can't ask him as he is no longer with us. Although it was an odd name for a girl fifty years ago and many people asked were the name came from, it was special to tell that I was named after a ship.
